We are now an accredited Living Wage Employer!

The Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Wintercomfort including Food4Food staff, regardless of whether they are permanent employees or third-party contractors; receive a minimum hourly wage of £8.25 – significantly higher than the new minimum wage premium for over 25s of £7.20 per hour introduced this April.

The Food4Food Café is the first place in Cambridge to be awarded the Healthier Food Commitment. This means that:

  • We do not deep fat fry,
  • We use low fat options were possible including polyunsaturated spread and extra virgin olive oil during preparation of foods,
  • We use a small amount of salt in cooking e.g. our quiches but do not add extra salt,
  • Smaller portions are available, please ask when ordering,
  • We use semi-skimmed milk,
  • We do not serve chips,
  • We serve our food with side salads or veggies,
  • Salad dressing is optional.

On Saturday 7th December, Food4Food will be serving Hot Spiced Apple Punch and Cakes at Mill Road Winter Fair from 10.30-4.30pm. We are at the entrance to Gwydir Street Food Area. Come and say hello! We will be sharing our stall with Cyrenians who will be selling a range of homemade preserves and chutneys.

Our Food4Food social enterprise is expanding and we are looking for a Catering Assistant to help in our lunchtime community café and our busy kitchen at Overstream House. If you have experience in a busy food retail environment, delivering high standards of food quality and customer service, and at the same time can support a staff team who all have experience of homelessness, then we would like to hear from you.

Wintercomfort hosts a range of services for the homeless in Cambridge: The Comfort Zone (welfare services), Centre Forward (learning and development services) and Food4Food (social enterprise – catering)

Salary: £6.25 ph
Hours: 30 hrs/wk, either shift of 08.00-1.30 or 9.30-4pm Monday to Friday.
Contract: 12 months, with possibility of extension pending funding.
Annual Leave: 25 days pro rata, plus bank holidays. Some holidays will have to be taken on dates
when St Andrew’s Hall is closed.
Responsible to: Social Enterprise Manager
Location: Overstream House, Victoria Avenue, Cambridge, CB4 1EG and Food4Food Community Cafe

Thank you Lissy for the information about this well-written blog by a homeless/vulnerably housed bloke who developed his taste for good food when he worked as a high-flyer before having a breakdown and ending up homeless and being helped by his community mental health team. He’s now getting column and book offers left, right and centre!

The Food4Food Buffet service has introduced a gluten-free and vegan range of buffet menus. We have received some great feedback regarding our new recipes (please see testimonials). We are able to cater for most special diets. Please ask when you order if required.
